Once a JJLer, always a JJLer!

January 31, 2010 by Rosa Say

The alternative, is to stop learning. And that, is INCONCEIVABLE.

Today we bid a fond Aloha to Joyful Jubilant Learning:

Learning Healthy and Joyful Endings

I never imagined this would be one of the changes on our horizon as 2010 began. Yet as I sit here writing to you, I am sure this change was meant to be, as sure as I can be: It is the “healthy” part I refer to in my post title. There are those times you know, “it’s time.” You may not completely understand why, or be able to explain it well, but you know.

It is with a tinge of sadness, but also the greater joy of certainty and clarity, that I am declaring “game over” for Joyful Jubilant Learning…

Well, we did say we’d be game-changers in 2010!

JJL has been a very commanding presence in my life since 2006, and so I have a rush of different emotions about this decision, however I mostly feel like this:

The best part of this decision is the open space it gives Talking Story entry into, and believe me, we’ll step into it joyfully!

At JJL: Open Loops, Meet Sweet Closure

January 3, 2010 by Rosa Say

On January 1st I posted: At JJL: Thrive in 2010 by Learning Healthy Living

jjl170x170mainbadge.2009Have you decided to Learn Healthy Living in 2010 too?

I hope you are nodding yes, for without healthy living everything else gets to be a moot point.

Today I am following up with my specific contribution to the JJL month and editorial calendar, with a posting called:
Open Loops, Meet Sweet Closure.

By way of quick preview, here are the subtitles included:

  • January 2010. Healthy Living. Where to start?
It makes a connection to another post here in our Talking Story archives… following up!
  • Open Loops
I explain what they are, and how I came to fold them into my vocabulary and Language of Intention.
  • Sweet Closure
When I work on Sweet Closure I feel strong. I feel prepared. I feel confident.
  • Three Joyful Learning Questions
2 coaching questions for you. The 3rd is more of an invitation, and I am hoping we get a few responses to learn from in the comments!
Will I be reading what you have to say?!?!?
These are just one kind of open loops, and I bet we can work on others together.

As a final bonus, I make a very public declaration of my own Ho‘ohana Intention: Will you be someone in our Ho‘ohana Community who holds me accountable? Grab your chance, and click over to Joyful Jubilant Learning right now…

Hau‘oli Makahiki hou ~ Happy New Year!

jjl170x170mainbadge.2009I am posting at Joyful Jubilant Learning today, to kick off our learning theme for January:
Join us there, and kick off your learning in this promising new year…

At JJL: Thrive in 2010 by Learning Healthy Living

Let’s LEARN in 2010, more than we ever have before. Let’s learn, and let’s thrive.

We enthusiastically present a single learning resolution to you, one we feel is universally important, and very basic for all lifelong learners: Learning Healthy Living for the New Year.

When we learn how we thrive, we’ve gained ‘Health Wisdom’

You see, good health, —make that, great health— is our sincere wish for all of you, and as early in 2010 as you can possibly achieve it. Bank your health wisdoms so they can serve you well in the months to follow.

Why? Well first, being healthy just feels better, pure and simple.

Second, it takes scads of energy to tackle a new year with all the goals we set our sights on. We learners, by nature, are ambitious. So we need strength to focus on those goals. We need the vitality, vim and vigor which keeps us diligent and tenacious in our efforts, and brave about experimentation. We know our mistakes can make a mess at times, but they’re playful, learning messes!

Get the Gift of Learning Throughout the Year

‘Ike loa ~ the Hawaiian value of learning

Seek knowledge, for new knowledge is the food for mind, heart and soul.
Learning inspires us, and with ‘Ike loa we constantly give birth to new, creative possibilities.
— From Managing with Aloha, Chapter 11

Great managers are lifelong learners. They discover they  have to be. In the process of that discovery, they want to be.

Number 36 x5 = 180

Each and every month, since January of 2007, I have reflected on my learning in a list of five lessons learned, participating in Rapid Fire Learning at Joyful Jubilant Learning. Takes me no more than 5 minutes, usually it’s less; a minute at most to write and reflect on each one. This month then, marks the 36th time I have done so.

I love looking back and seeing the progression of my learning, now 180 entries in all. Being part of the JJL community of learners makes it so easy, and so joyful, and often the learning themes there can be quite an influence.

For instance, these were the monthly themes at Joyful Jubilant Learning throughout 2009. They always start within two values: Joy (‘Oli) and Learning (‘Ike loa). They always end in collaboratively-spirited community discussions explored and savored, and with learning exponentially magnified.

Give yourself one more Christmas gift before this holiday season of 2009 becomes but a memory. Won’t you join us there, and celebrate all the possibilities the value of ‘Ike loa can reveal for you?

Rapid Fire Learning | December 2009

Rapid Fire Learning is a good time to meet the community there, and immediately participate in our online conversations in a very easy way, one which establishes your credentials immediately. Simply, you are a learner, and you ‘say’ so by sharing your learning lokomaika‘i, in the spirit of generosity.

Great managers are lifelong learners. They get to be.

To get that jump, and to create the RFL learning retention habit with just 5 minutes of your time each month is quite the good deal. So what are you waiting for?
