Color me Fickle

May 21, 2007 by Rosa Say

Elemental Value Added Truth: "Mere colour, unspoiled by meaning, and unallied with definite form, can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways." – Oscar Wilde, as shared by Reg Adkins

When I was younger, I would have told you that red was my least favorite color.

Asked to choose now, I’d probably say that my faves are yellow and green, in just about every shade they come in.

Yet look at what color I’ve chosen here at Talking Story, and here for Managing with Aloha.

I think I’ll go for Reg Adkin’s explanation why this might be: "passion, strength, energy, fire, passion, speed, heat" sounds pretty good to me.

The green did come in to play here though. The purple was from Tim, and I wholeheartedly agreed it was just perfect (and I like this green).

What are your true colors?

Just for fun …Pick a favorite color:

  • Gray
  • White
  • Black
  • Red
  • Blue
  • Green
  • Yellow
  • Purple
  • Orange
  • Brown
  • Pink

(They’re all black as choices for now, so I don’t influence you with the shade I pick.) Sure, you can pick more than one. Complex people get to make complex choices, right?

Then, visit Reg’s Elemental Truths, to read, Color, Light, Behavior and check out what your choice says about you. Care to share?

I love to study symbolism, and these pretty well match what traits I’ve generally found associated with these colors.
I have a few favorites, so this is how I fared.
    Blue- unity, harmony, calmness, tranquility
Green- nature, spring, fertility, youth, environment, vigor, generosity
Purple- sensuality, spirituality, creativity, ceremony, royalty, arrogance
    Brown- calm, rusticism, stability, tradition,
I think my friends, family, fellow teachers, and students would agree there are words in each list that suit me well.

I am ever startled and honored that savants like you Rosa, choose to honor me with acknowledgement in their work.

I’m glad you liked my “purple.”
I just realized I don’t have a favorite color. I’m going to have to get one….so many to choose from.

wow Reg, you humble me. I don’t think anyone has ever called me a savant before, and that’s a distinction I’m challenged to live up to: Mahalo nui, thank you for giving it to me.
As to honoring you, it is a natural for me, for yours is a blog I am sure to read as often as I can, and you feed into my intellectual capacity with your writing. And it’s not all seriousness – with these colors you gave us joy and playfulness to share with each other! — and thank you to Rebecca and EM for their sharing too!
As to choosing you Reg, I’d say we both chose well in deciding to be together in the Ho’ohana Community! It’s part of that “emotional intelligence” I spoke of in my previous posting.
Tim, I love your purple, and whatever color you choose to use because it’s so easy to love you :-) You are a rainbow of goodness.
